Ensembles

Students from any major may participate in music ensembles.  Academic credit is earned through participation with no tuition cost. Auditions are required for membership unless otherwise noted.

Bands      UE BANDS WEBPAGE

Wind Ensemble is composed of the finest undergraduate wind and percussion students at the University. The ensemble carries approximately 45 members and performs a variety of repertoire from the finest original wind band works to select transcriptions. The Wind Ensemble frequently represents the University both at the state and national levels.

University Band is made up of both music majors and non-music majors. The band performs at all home basketball games and campus pep rallies. The group travels annually to St. Louis for the Missouri Valley Conference basketball tournament and has frequently appeared at the NCAA tournament. In addition the band will perform in a concert at the end of each semester. No audition is required. events throughout the year.  No audition is required.

Jazz Bands include two full-size ensembles and several smaller combos.  In addition to their regular campus performances, the jazz bands annually sponsor a jazz guest artist concert series.  

Orchestras

Symphony Orchestra is an ensemble open to both music majors and non-music majors by audition.  This 60-member ensemble performs four campus concerts each year, and every third year is showcased on a national tour.  Orchestra members have the opportunity to perform with world class guest artists.    

String Ensemble is a select group of approximately 20 members with a focus on string literature for the small ensemble.  

A unique ensemble experience for outstanding string students at the University of Evansville is the opportunity to perform professionally as contract players with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra. Qualified students may be invited to audition for the prestigious Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra String Fellowship.

Chamber Ensembles

Chamber Music Ensembles include brass choir, woodwind quintet, string quartet, piano trio and like instrument ensembles such as guitar ensemble, flute ensemble, clarinet ensemble and percussion ensemble.  Performances range from campus concerts to community events.  All ensembles are coached by faculty from the appropriate area.

University Choir is a distinguished ensemble composed of some of the finest vocal talent on campus. This ensemble has built up a particular reputation for its performances of major choral-orchestral masterworks, including music by Mozart, J.S. Bach, Handel, Fauré, Bernstein and Orff.  A cappella music and romantic part songs as well as folk songs and spirituals are also important aspects of the choir's profile.

The University Choir has toured extensively throughout the United States and abroad.  The ensemble has appeared in many leading venues including Carnegie Hall, New York, and St. Margaret Church at Westminster Abbey, London, England, and, most recently, Glinka Cappella, St. Petersburgh, Russia.

Women's Chorus is one of the largest inter-disciplinary groups on campus.  With its wide variety of repertoire and high level of enthusiasm for music, this choir has attracted music lovers from all across campus.  Women's Chorus presents a concert each semester and participates in the performance of the annual Holiday Pops with the University Symphony Orchestra.  No audition is required.

Men's Chorus provides University men the fine tradition of glee club singing. They perform with the Women's Chorus as well as in their own full-length concert every semester. Nevertheless, they are perhaps best known for singing the National Anthem at UE basketball games.  No audition is required.
